Beyond Words' newest title, The Drama Group, was co-authored by English actor Hugh Grant, Sheila Hollins, and Nigel Hollins. It is a fantastic collaboration to mark the company's 25th anniversary.
The Drama Group is a story about a young man with learning disabilities who is encouraged by his friend to join a drama group. The title raises awareness on how life-enhancing it can be for people with learning disabilities to get involved in drama, whether they want to be on the big stage or have an important role behind the scenes.
Befittingly, the title was launched on the 13th of January with a play at Sadler's Wells, London. The cast included Hugh Grant and actors from The Baked Bean Theatre Company. The plot followed that of the book in which Hugh Grant played the advocate for drama.
The book and launch has been an enjoyed success with a great interest from the media. The collaboration was made possible by a longstanding friendship between the Hollins family and Hugh Grant. In a BBC interview, Baroness Sheila Hollins, perfectly summarised the motivation behind Beyond Words' 25 years of hard work...'people just really blossom when they are treated with respect and accepted for who they are'.
