The NMHDU are the event partners for this year’s Mental Health Today and have work closely with Pavilion to produce the programme.

The NMHDU is the national agency charged with supporting the implementation of mental health policy in England, in collaboration with the NHS, local authorities, and other major stakeholders.

NMHDU, launched in April 2009, consists of a small central team and a range of programmes funded by both the Department of Health and the NHS to provide national support for implementing mental health policy by advising on national and international best practice to improve mental health and mental health services. It will do this by commissioning or providing:

  • specialist expertise in priority areas of policy and delivery
  • effective knowledge transfer on research, evidence and good practice
  • translation of national policies into practical deliverables that achieve outcomes
  • coordination of national activity to help regional and local implementation.

NMHDU’s work will be developed through co-production between DH and the SHAs, and strategic partnerships with other groups such as the NHS Confederation, the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services and the major mental health third sector organisations.

We turn lives around each day by putting the individual at the heart of what we do. We provide a wide range of social care services across England and Wales.

Turning Point is the UK’s leading social care organisation. We provide services for people with complex needs, including those affected by drug and alcohol misuse, mental health problems and those with a learning disability.

Our portfolio of mental health service across the country includes assertive community outreach and crisis services, supported housing, residential services for those detained under the Mental Health Act and specific provision. Since our first project opened in 1964, we have prided ourselves on developing life changing services that meet the diverse needs of our service users. By focusing on the person rather than the problem, we aim to provide individually tailored care, enabling people to transform their lives and supporting them to be a part of the community. We work in partnership with a range of agencies and endeavour to provide connected care to help clients address issues such as poverty, unemployment, homelessness or offending behaviour.

We also work at a national strategic level to lobby government and other policy makers for change. We turn lives around every day, by putting the individual at the heart of what we do, inspired by those we work with, together we help people build a better life.
