Valuing People is the government's plan for making the lives of people with learning disabilities, their families and carers better. It was written in 2001, with help from people with learning disabilities, family carers, and people who work in services or other organisations for people with learning disabilities. It is based on people having their rights as citizens, inclusion in their local communities, their own choice in daily life and a real chance to be independent. Valuing People Now is a document that reaffirms the values and policy of Valuing People. It shows what progress has been made since 2001 and sets out the priorities for the next three years. The document has been out for wide consultation which ended on the 28th March 2008. The final version of Valuing People Now, From Progression to Transformation will be published in the summer and will set the direction of travel and vision for 2008 to 2011.
The Valuing People Support Team are part of the Care Services Improvement Partnership (CSIP) which help make the changes in Valuing People happen by working with Learning Disability Partnership Boards, local people, organisations and Government Departments
They offer support and advice to people working to change services, help people get together to talk and share ideas, and listen to what people are saying so they can then tell the government and get things changed.
The Valuing People Support Team works closely with the Office of the National Director for Learning Disabilities. This monitors and supports implementations of Valuing People by acting as a champion for change and improvement.

Voyage provides a range of care and support solutions for people with a variety of specialist needs. These currently include Learning Disability, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Physical Disabilities, Acquired Brain Injuries, Neurological Impairments and Mental Health.
A depth of experience has been developed over 20 years in understanding the needs of individuals. Some people may require a relatively short period of intensive support; others may be looking for a range of solutions which will meet their needs at different stages in their lives. What is common to both scenarios is that special effort will be made to understand each individual’s particular needs and aspirations by thorough assessment processes which will then be translated into a care or support plan that puts that person at the centre. Voyage provides an environment and culture which promotes progress and independence and on its website www.voyagecare.com you will find many examples of service users who have interesting and fulfilling lives and who have a strong community presence.
Voyage has an extensive range of services for adults and young people in England, Scotland and Wales. There are currently over 250 services, some generic others highly specialised and over 20 brand new services have been developed in each of the last five years. Voyage provides a full continuum of care from support in the home to nursing home or hospital environments.
