The National Social Services Conference for Wales is a joint venture between the Association of Directors of Social Services Cymru (ADSS Cymru) and the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA). The conference is the main annual strategic event for the sector, and pays particular attention to the political and professional interface of social services.

The theme of the conference in 2010 is 'Transforming Services in Challenging Times', and will focus on the vision for adult social care, children's services, and partnership working to help improve services for individual service users, their families, carers and their communities.

As partners, ADSS Cymru and WLGA are committed to making this event a high class conference, relevant to all those involved in the social care sector, not just from Local Government but to those from the huge number of organisations that now provide social services for children and adults in Wales.

We will ensure the conference and its plenary, workshop and exhibition events will reflect the fullest possible range of interests brought by delegates from an equally wide range of backgrounds.

Aims of the conference

The National Social Services Conference for Wales 2010 will focus on the political and professional interface linked to social services, the vision for adult social care, children's services, and partnership working to help improve services for individual service users, their families, carers and their communities.

In doing so, the 2010 Conference will focus on the challenge of translating the vision for social care in Wales into practical changes that makes a real difference to people's lives and their communities.

The conference will aim to:

- Give delegates the space and opportunity to discuss what transforming social care means, and how social services can meet future challenges in a time of rising community expectations, unstable economies and political changes.

- Give delegates an opportunity to increase their knowledge on chosen strategic areas and hear from influential sector leaders.

- Give delegates the opportunity to share new ideas, practice and evidence to support the improvement of service delivery.

- Give delegates the opportunity to make connections and build relationships with partners in all sectors.

- Give delegates the opportunity to view showcase exhibitions from all sectors
