The choice of accommodation with care and support for people with learning disabilities is often limited. There is a very little available to show the extent of what can be offered. This manual seeks to help people with their preferences, leading towards individual choice and more suitable solutions.

The manual is for commissioners, purchasers and planner in social services, those in housing departments with a responsibility for housing for community care, and independent service providers. Much of the material looks at extending the form of residential  services by using more ordinary housing and creating a reliable and effective support service to make this viable.

Material in the book will also be useful for carers or families for whom the problem of planning for the future can be difficult due to lack of information. Voluntary societies advocacy or parent  groups should also find the material helpful.

Professionals within the social care sector are required to undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) by the General Social Care Council (GSCC). Those who use this resource will be able to gain CPD points.
