This workbook is based on the Skills for Care and Development knowledge set for safeguarding vulnerable people. Knowledge sets are key learning outcomes for social care workers who are working in the field of adult social care. They are intended to be used by employers for in -house training courses. Knowledge sets can be used separately or alongside the Common Induction Standards as part of a care worker's continuing professional development. This will enable the worker to: develop new skills; improve self confidence; support their transition between different service settings; work in accordance with current good practice.

Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults will guide the newly appointed worker and their manager/employer through the induction process to ensure that they meet the appropriate standards and that they receive the necessary training to enable them to work safely and appropriately.

The training in this workbook is based on the four main areas of the knowledge set which are illustrated by case studies derived from current policy or research:

Part one: Roles and boundaries
Part two: Danger, harm and abuse
Part three: Social norms, values and perceptions
Part four: Legislation and guidance in relation to the safeguarding of vulnerable adults.

Professionals within the social care sector are required to undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) by the General Social Care Council (GSCC). Those who use this resource will be able to gain CPD points.
