About the resource
:
The new level 3 certificate 'Working in Community Health Care', has been revised and the focus of the qualification is on best practice with adults with mental health problems aged from 18 up to 65 years who are in contact with mental health and care and support services. The Certificate combines the development of knowledge with the development of practical skills, with the aim of improving people’s practice.

Pavilion and the Mental Health Foundation have collaborated to publish a set of resources to support delivery of the Certificate and to provide a range of staff with comprehensive learning opportunities for continuing professional development. Learners are encouraged to understand the diversity of needs of people with mental health problems and the importance of an individual approach to exploring options for intervention, enabling self-management wherever possible. It is relevant to the promotion of mental health in all settings, not just specialist mental health services.

Contents include:
  • ·    Unit 301 Understand mental well-being and mental health promotion
  • ·    Unit 302 Understand mental health problems
  • ·    Unit 303 Understand mental health interventions
  • ·    Unit 304 Understand the legal, policy and service framework in mental health
  • ·    Unit 305 Understand care and support planning and risk management in mental health
  • ·    Unit 306 Use effective communication and build relationships in mental health work
  • ·    Unit 307 Enable mental health service users and carers to manage change
  • ·    Unit 308 Effective team and joint working in mental health

The tutor manual provides a one day training workshop on each unit, plus suggestions for group tutorials. The learner workbook provides key points, further information and tasks for the learner. Together, the resources and qualification provide an opportunity for individuals to reflect upon their own experience as practitioners and so enhance their practice, skills and knowledge in the area of mental health care.

The Tutor manual contains: guidelines on running each unit session, with slide presentation and printable resources and handouts; video and audio clips; suggestions for group tutorials.

Vital information for: Colleges and other training and assessment centres who wish to deliver the Certificate, managers and trainers who wish to use the material for CPD, for a variety of care and support roles, including: support workers in acute health environments, domiciliary services, day services, and supported living projects, community-based care assistants, housing officers, senior care workers or team leaders, healthcare assistants, and emerging new roles in mental health and allied services.
