This Initial Award, accredited by the QCA (Qualifications and Curriculum Authority), provides an introduction to individuals who are new to their role in the adult mental health sector, and is designed to complement or provide a framework for an employer’s existing induction programme.

The Level 2 Certificate comprises five units: Unit 1 Principles of mental health work Unit 2 The experience of mental distress Unit 3 Effective communication Unit 4 The working environment Unit 5 Developing as a mental health worker About the materials The Mental Health Foundation and Pavilion have produced a learning programme, materials and assessment guidance to support the delivery of the Level 2 Certificate.

These materials have been written to focus on work-based training by the line manager to support staff in achieving the Level 2 Certificate. The programme uses a combination of: ?group learning sessions with input from a trainer ?independent learning activities that are closely linked to the assessment requirements of the award. The Student’s workbook contains overview of the certificate, unit aims and outcomes of the certificate, guidance to the assessment requirements, independent learning activities to produce evidence, checklists for recording achievements. Professionals within the social care sector are required to undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) by the General Social Care Council (GSCC). Those who use this resource will be able to gain CPD points.
