Supported employment is a service that aims to increase participation in real, un-segregated work for people with learning difficulties.

Making it Work explores the experiences and strategies for success of supported employees, employers, colleagues and job coaches. The report is unusual in focusing primarily on the perspectives of people with learning difficulties themselves, and also because the research was carried out in collaboration with members of the self-advocate group People First Wales. It identifies examples of good practice and suggests how the service can be developed and improved.

The research was conducted at the Welsh Centre for Learning Disabilities by authors: Stephanie Jones and Julia Shearn, both Research Fellows; trainee researcher and self-advocate Jeff Morgan; and freelance reseracher De Murphy.

The WCLD is based at the University of Wales, College of Medicine in Cardiff, and brings together a range of multi-disciplinary expertise in research, teaching, clinical practice and service development.

Professionals within the social care sector are required to undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) by the General Social Care Council (GSCC). Those who use this resource will be able to gain CPD points.
