This workbook is based on the Skills for Care and Development knowledge set for dementia care. Knowledge sets are key learning outcomes for social care workers who are working in the field of adult social care. They are intended to be used by employers for in-house training courses, training providers, publishers and awarding bodies. Knowledge sets can be used separately or alongside the Common Induction Standards as part of a care worker's continuing professional development. This will enable workers to develop new skills, improve self-confidence, support their transition between different service settings and work in accordance with current good practice.

Caring for the Person with dementia offers the necessary training and guidance to newly appointed workers and their employers through the induction process to ensure they meet the appropriate standards to work appropriately with people with dementia.

The chapters of this training manual are based on the four main areas of the Skills for Care knowledge set. These are:
1. Support of individuals with dementia
2. Roles, responsibilities and boundaries
3. Defining dementia
4. Legislation and guidance relevant to individuals with dementia

Each chapter is cross-referenced to the outcomes of these four main areas.

Continuous Professional Development
Professionals within the social care sector are required to undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD). Those who use this resource will be able to gain CPD points.
